We did it! On 6th June, 15 brave souls from the CFM team took on a 10-mile charity walk in aid of the Prince of Wales Hospice.
Now, when we signed up, 10 miles sounded like a perfectly reasonable idea. We were feeling confident. We had enthusiasm. We had walking shoes.
What we hadn’t counted on was the rain.
And we mean rain!
Within no time at all, we were wet, soggy and wondering whether we had accidentally signed up for a charity swim. But there was no turning back. Well, technically there was… but nobody wanted to be that person!
Luckily, we had a secret weapon: a midway beer stop. 🍺
After several miles of heroic walking, soggy socks and increasingly questionable decisions, the team arrived at the halfway point — and suddenly morale went through the roof.
Funny how quickly everyone’s legs recovered when there was a pint waiting!
The midway beer stop gave us the boost we needed to carry on, although we’re not entirely sure whether it was the beer or the thought of the finish line that got us moving again. Either way, we eventually managed to drag ourselves back onto the route.
The second half involved more tired legs and a few more “How much further?” conversations. But the team spirit stayed strong, with everyone encouraging each other and making sure we crossed the finish line together.
And all those miles, puddles and questionable footwear choices were for a fantastic cause.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who sponsored us, we raised a brilliant £3,359.98 for the Prince of Wales Hospice.
That’s an amazing total and one the whole CFM team can be incredibly proud of. A massive thank you to everyone who donated and supported us — you helped make every soggy mile worthwhile.
Eventually, we reached the finish line.

At this point, we had nothing left in our legs, but somehow we found the energy for one final important activity…

After walking 10 miles, that first pint was possibly the best beer any of us had ever tasted. We’re not saying it was the only reason we finished the walk, but it certainly helped us get through the final few miles!
A huge well done to all 15 members of the CFM team who took part. We braved the weather, battled the blisters, survived the soggy socks and, most importantly, did it together.
We’re incredibly proud of the team and hugely grateful to everyone who helped us raise such a fantastic amount for the Prince of Wales Hospice.
